A dog is in the hospital after being stabbed multiple times.
Cass County Sheriff officials received a report yesterday morning that a dog was injured in rural Horace.
Organizations, law enforcement and dog owners are disgusted with the news that Wilford the dog was brutally attacked.
Kish Hilmert from Luv 4 Dog said, “To do this kind of damage to an animal, I can’t even fathom what state of mind that person was in, it’s just sickening.”
After law enforcement found him on Sunday morning, he was transported here to the Red River Emergency Animal Clinic for treatment. His condition is stable, but he’s not out of the woods yet.
“There are some blood levels that we’re watching, we’re hoping that he doesn’t need a transfusion, but if some of his levels get low enough we’ll have to do a transfusion for him,” said Hilmert.
It’s not only tragic, but also a crime. Law enforcement is investigating the case, and if found, the person will have consequences.
Sergeant Dean Haaland said, “A minimum is a class A misdemeanor, for animal cruelty, it could eventually be a class c felony, depends on those frequency of it if there were others involved.”
The dog owners we spoke with don’t understand how someone could hurt a dog.
Brittany Biggs who owns a dog herself said, “Give it to somebody you know will love him and take care of him, don’t neglect him and tourer an animal. I mean how would you feel if somebody tortured you? I mean it’s kind of the same concept you know? It’s not cool.”
Medical bills are expected to be in the thousands, if you’d like to help Wilford you can donate on http://www.4luvofdog.org/wp/how-to-help-provide-financial-assistance.
