An MSUM student will soon be joining the ranks of Orlando Bloom, Paul Rudd and Anna Gunn.
Kate Aarness will be attending the London Theatre Program at the Prestigious British American Drama Academy.
Aarness is reciting lines from Macbeth, some of the many she’s memorized.
Acting is a passion for the MSUM junior who recently got accepted into the London Theatre Program.
“I’d just woken up so I was kind of like, in shock, and I guess it hasn’t even really hit me yet that I’m going to be in London,” said Aarness.
It’s at the British American Drama Academy, the same place where big name actors like Orlando Bloom, Paul Rudd and Anna Gunn attended.
“This is huge,” said Aarness.
It’s a semester long program where she’ll be immersed in all things theatre.
Her friends had no doubt she’d get in.
“It’s kind of funny because in a way I was like, I’m so surprised. I wasn’t expecting this and they’re like, Kate we knew you’d get in. Like, shut up,” said Aarness.
Christopher Pitner has known her for years and recognizes her talent.
“She doesn’t just go up there and do it, but she goes up there and she becomes someone else up there. She’s thinking and she’s creating another person in front of us,” said Pitner.
Aarness wanted to follow her passion of theatre for many reasons; one of them being she was born into it, literally.
Her mom is a major influence in her life.
“I like to joke, that I’ve been doing theatre since was in utero, because she was directing a show when she was pregnant with me,” said Aarness.
Department professors say this is a great opportunity for Aarness and the school.
“MSUM has a tradition of I think success in the field and Kate is one more person who I think is going on to do good things,” said MSUM Professor Patrick Carriere.
For Aarness, it’s not all about the fame
“It’s much less about, I want to be famous. Like no, it’s not about fame or being known, I think it’s about being happy with the work that you’re doing,” said Aarness.
It’s a chance for a local student to take what she learned in the classroom, out into the world.
Aarness will be leaving the states in September for the fall semester.
