Suspect Dead and Officer Injured in Minneapolis

An officer is injured and one man is dead after an officer is forced to open fire in Minneapolis.

Investigators say the shooting happened along I-694 just before 11 p.m. Friday night. Officials say the Lino police officer and the suspect got into a struggle after the officer pulled him over for a traffic stop.

The officer tried to taser the suspect but it didn’t work. The driver then jumped into the car and drove off dragging the officer several feet. The officer eventually managed to pull out his gun and shoot the suspect.

The suspect’s vehicle then left the road and drove through a fence before coming to a stop in a parking lot.

“The officer injured in currently being treated. He is a nine year veteran of the lino lakes police department,” said Don Abbott of Fridley Police.

The incident is under investigation.
