If you get stopped by a police officer and are suspected of driving under the influence, there’s an app for that.
The DueyDialer app allows those stopped for a DUI to record the interaction and send it to the nearest registered lawyer.
DueyDialer records the stop and automatically send the conversation in real time to a local lawyer.
The app creators say it’s a way to make sure all the facts are straight.
“It’s really about representation right? It’s kind of like insurance. Our motto is like having an attorney in your pocket. We all drive, we have insurance and we hope we never have to use insurance right, but accidents do occur,” said DueyDialer Co-Founder Daniel Delgado.
Jermaine Mimms sees a lot of benefits coming out of an app like this.
“Getting everything, facts straight and everything for like how people just write stories and go with what they hear and what they know,” said Mimms of Fargo.
The app is now available in six states.
The goal is to get the app in the top 200 markets in the country.
Minneapolis is only a few days away from getting the service, which means it could work for people in Moorhead, but do police think it’s needed?
“If somebody is encountering an officer such as this for a DUI here in Moorhead, they would be, already being audio and video recorded,” said Moorhead Police Department Lt. Tory Jacobson.
Police say recording an interaction with an officer is legal in both Minnesota and North Dakota
All you have to do is download the smartphone application, and open it when an officer stops you.
Creators say they hope to give people a peace of mind when facing a DUI.
“A lot of things going on through your mind; it’s highly emotionally charged. So this gives you the opportunity to, that app takes care of that process for you and you can kind focus on what you need to focus on,” said Delgado.
Delgado says he hopes the app will be available in all 50 states in the near–future.
The app is free and available to download on Android devices.
