Teen Charged After Texting During Fatal Accident

An NDSU student from Killdeer is charged in a crash that killed a Minnesota man and injured another in February.

18-year-old Ashley Birkle faces charges of negligent homicide and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Authorities say Birkle was texting when she crossed the median and hit a pickup on I-94 near Jamestown.

Birkle had told authorities that she had fallen asleep.

But investigators say her telephone proved she was texting.
