World Champions is the title that is on the minds of the US Women’s soccer team as they head to the World Cup Finals.

The women beat Germany 2-0 last night in the semi–final, and local fans are excited.

Practicing during the off season, Davies players stopped to let us know that they made sure to watch last night’s game where the US women came out victorious.

Davies Co-Captain Aronah Mukhtar said,”I was scared, especially after the PK, it was a scary moment for me. But, I knew that they’d pull through, I had hope.”

Davies Co-Captain Joel Haggard said”Having the women come into the finals…that was pretty cool. Especially for kids here to have heroes and look up to him is pretty cool.”

One of Moorhead Highs women’s soccer captains has idolized players like Megan Rapinoe since she was a kid.

Co-Captain of Moorhead High Allison Ulness said, “I’ve always wanted to play in the women’s soccer team, it would be a great opportunity to do that, but yeah I’ve always looked up to them.”…. “I love more women getting into the soccer side.”

Even though the men’s team didn’t reach the final for the World Cup, the women believe they can win!

When asked if they can win, Elly Schaefer Co-Captain of the Spuds said, “Basically i think we have a lot of momentum going into it obviously, with this win over Germany who is number one so I think there’s a really good chance of it.”

“This is what the U.S. lives for; you know we’re up for these challenges, so I think we’re going to get this,”said Mukhtar.

The U.S. has two world cup wins but hopes to add another trophy to the collection at 7:00 Sunday night.
