UND Nickname Committee Narrows List Down to 5

We are getting closer to a vote on a new nickname for UND, and it will not be “North Dakota” or “Green Hawks”.

The university’s nickname committee eliminated both from the list of 7 after rating the nicknames and “North Dakota” ranked 7th.

That leaves Fighting Hawks, Nodaks, North Stars, Roughriders and Sundogs.

A consultant warned of a double meaning behind the names “Roughriders” and “Sundogs”.

A public vote on a final nickname selection has yet to be set.
