Emergency Rooms Busy During WE Fest

Tens of thousands of people partying at WE Fest means Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes is bound to be busy.
Emergency room staff tells us they get around 20 to 30 more people per day than normal during WE Fest.
Essentia doctors meet with the medical staff at WE Fest before the concert to go over protocol.
Many of the patients suffer from alcohol poisoning or dehydration.
But there are several injuries as well like ankle sprains and broken bones.
Doctors have some advice to avoid a trip to the emergency room.
“I certainly would advise moderation and certainly have a buddy system. Have somebody, at least one or two people that you’re with at all times just for your safety and their safety as well. Drink plenty of fluids,” says Essentia Emergency Department Manager Tom Alinder.
Doctors are also encouraging attendees to avoid wearing flip flops.
