CHS Drops Building Plans for a $3 Billion Fertilizer Plant in Spiritwood

A huge loss for the Jamestown area.

CHS has dropped plans for a $3 billion fertilizer plant at Spiritwood, 10 miles north of Jamestown.

Construction was to start this fall on the plant which would use natural gas from the oil patch to make anhydrous ammonia fertilizer.

A spokesperson for the St. Paul based, farmer owned cooperative, says the decision was difficult and it came down to economics and return on investment.
