Student athletes are speaking up about drunk driving.

Minnesota is launching a statewide DWI education and enforcement campaign tomorrow through Labor Day weekend.

Officials invited local athletes to remind drivers to think of them when they plan their night out.

Now that sports are back in session, it is very possible that these young athletes and their families are out on the roads.

“We need to transform our culture in Minnesota from a culture that accepts the loss of life as a price of getting from a destination five minutes faster to a culture where even one life lost on our roadways is unacceptable,” says Tom Nixon of West Central TZD.

Law enforcement says Labor Day weekend is the second deadliest weekend on the roadways.

In the past five years, 24 people have died in alcohol-related crashes during the holiday weekend in Minnesota.
