Potato Days Kicks Off in Barnesville
Sorry, this video is no longer available
More than 20,000 people are expected in Barnesville this weekend for the carb-loaded Potato Days Festival.
Potato Days is back in full force. Now I know the potato sack fashion show isn’t until tomorrow but I had to find a way to get in the spirit.
Potato Days started back in 1938. It took a 34 year break and started again in 1992.
It’s a weekend of family friendly activities focused on creating memories and of course potatoes.
The Red River Valley is one of the nation’s major potato producing areas.
I talked to a man who has been every year since ’92.
“I pace myself. I try to eat three times a day down here and so I tend to hit most of the food stands for two days. I don’t have to eat on Sunday,” says Ron Johnson of Barnesville.
Events continue all night tonight until 11 and pick up again tomorrow. I’ll have more for you on KVRR News at 9.
