Cooking Oil to Blame for Moorhead Apartment Fire

Cooking oil left to warm up on the stove is the cause of an apartment fire last night in Moorhead.

Fire crews were called around 8:15 to 1011 20th street south.

They say two people living in the apartment turned the stove on and left to shop for groceries.

The burner ignited the cooking oil while they were gone and the fire quickly spread to the cabinets and beyond.

Initial damage is estimated at $45,000.

The apartment will be uninhabitable until repairs are made.

The Red Cross is providing housing assistance to those who need it.
