The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that remains found near Alexandria this week are those of a missing college student.

18-year-old Laura Schwendemann of Starbuck, MN was last seen alive at an Alexandria gas station on October 14th.

A farmer found the remains of a young woman in a field in rural Douglas County on Monday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office stopped short of confirming the remains were Schwendemann earlier this week.

The Sheriff says the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has since been able to confirm the identity of the remains.
