Minnesota DFL and reproductive advocates highlight the importance of the right to abortions

MINNESOTA (KVRR) — Three Republican Governor Candidates have stated they would like to ban abortions in the state of Minnesota. And on Wednesday, Minnesota DFL Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy and reproductive freedom advocates met to discuss the candidates and share the importance of abortions.

“The event today was just to remind voters of how important and how imperative that access is. And that it truly does matter who is in the State House and who sits in the governor’s chair. And so, I fully have faith that the voters of Minnesota will not sit down and let abortion access go away,” said Tammi Kromenaker.

Kromenaker is the director at the Red River Women’s Clinic in Moorhead. The clinic was originally located in North Dakota, but had moved to Moorhead after the abortion ban took effect. The clinic offers women from both in-state and out-of-state care.

“It is a mission for me. It is truly a calling to be able to sit with a patient while they make this very big decision about their life, about where they’re at, where they’ve come from, and where they want to go in the future is beyond meaningful work. And it has become so important to me to continue that work,” said Kromenaker.

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade four years ago, many states have been divided in the mix of the right to an abortion. North Dakota temporarily lifted the ban in September 2024, but replaced it in November 2025. Minnesota has recognized the right to abortion since 1995.

“No matter the reason, abortion needs to remain legal and accessible in order for women to have their fundamental freedoms and ability to make decisions about their own body,” said Kromenaker.

Minnesota is one of nine states that have no gestational limits on abortion.
