Former Gov. Ed Schafer Named UND Interim President

Former North Dakota governor and U.S. Ag Secretary Ed Schafer has been named UND’s interim president.

Schafer was announced just yesterday as one of two candidates along with UND Provost Thomas DiLorenzo.

He was picked as interim president by the State Board of Higher Education.

Schafer will take over in January when President Robert Kelley retires.

He will serve until a permanent replacement can be found.

A search committee hopes to have a new president in place by July 1.
