Moorhead Man Charged in Elk Shooting

A Moorhead man is charged in Norman County with the unlawful taking of Elk.

Lucas Balzum, 32, faces up to one year behind bars and/or up to a $3,000 fine on the gross misdemeanor charge.

According to the criminal complaint, Balzum admitted shooting the elk on November 7th just outside of Ada.

Norman County does not have a legal elk hunting season.

Balzum says he thought it was a big buck and when he heard someone yell “elk” he got sick.

He is set to appear in court on December 2nd.
