Nearly Four Dozen People Stranded on Upper Red Lake Because of Ice

A big sheet of ice broke off on Upper Red Lake in northwestern Minnesota this morning stranding nearly four dozen people.

Luckily, a DNR official says the wind helped push the ice back and everyone was able to either walk off or be rescued.

It happened near Roger’s On Red Resort.

It’s not that common for ice chunks to break off, but has happened in the past.

There is about 6″ of ice on average on Upper Red Lake.

Most people have been walking or using ATVs to get onto the ice.
