A Friendly Reminder: Shovel Your Sidewalk on Time
A friendly reminder for when the snow hits: you have limited amount of time to clear your sidewalk.
Public Works crews across the Metro are preparing to keep streets clear during and after the storm.
But property owners are responsible for cleaning sidewalks next to homes and businesses.
In Moorhead, sidewalks must be cleared by 9 p.m. the day of the storm.
In Fargo, you have 24 hours after the storm.
West Fargo residents have 48 hours.
All three cities can charge property owners to clean up sidewalks that aren’t shoveled.
“There’s a sidewalk snow removal enforcement, and that’s a complaint-based process. So if there are issues out there, you contact the public works department, and we would then inspect and get the sidewalk clean,” says Mark Williams with Fargo Public Works.
Fargo received nearly 80 complaints about sidewalks during the first significant snow of the season last month.
