Minnesota Man Pulled Over, Says James Patterson Novel Distracted Him
It seemed like a regular traffic stop for one Minnesota cop who stopped a car for swerving all over the road.
OFFICER: “What are you looking at on your lap?”
MAN: “I was reading.”
OFFICER: “Reading? Why are you doing that?”
MAN: “I don’t know. Sorry.”
OFFICER: “What are you reading?”
MAN: “A James Patterson novel.”
The Eagan officer says he saw the vehicle driving erratically and weaving in and out of the lane.
When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed the book and the sheepish looking driver fessed up immediately.
“Nicest guy. Obviously not the smartest thing to do while driving. Very dangerous. But he kind of got it, knew he made a mistake and the officer went back and ended up giving him a citation. Stay alive, don’t novel and drive,” says Eagan Police Spokesperson Aaron Machtemes.
Police say distracted driving is one of the main causes of traffic crashes.
