Students Race Across The Finish Line At 33rd “Ice Skating Classic”

A large crowd of spectators came to watch grade school students lace up their skates and race to the finish line.

Clara Barton Elementary held their 33rd annual school wide competition, the “Ice Skating Classic.”

The friendly competition tradition continues with Clara Barton and Hawthrone Elementary coming together.

Students in grades one through five will race in different heats.

Due to the frigid temperatures last week, the event was rescheduled for a milder day.

“It’s a really big deal here. The kids were pretty heartbroken that we didn’t have it that day. Being able to reschedule and have it, obviously we have a great turn out,” says Physical Education teacher Heather Snowden

This tradition is designed to encourage students to be active outdoors during the winter season.
