Straus Clothing Says Goodbye For Good

The oldest family–owned retail business in the upper Midwest closes its doors for the final time.

Straus Clothing in Fargo was founded in 1879.

The owners announced their retirement back in November.

The liquidation sale left the store looking bare.

Items remaining during the last few hours were suits, shoes, fixtures and mannequins.

Fans of the store came to support during the final day.

“We’ve so enjoyed serving the community and just the support the people have given us over all these 136 years. And we’ll still be around in the community but it’s been a great run,” says co-owner Rick Stern.

Stern says some of the remaining items that were not sold will go to local shelters.
