Charges Filed in North Dakota Child’s Drowning

The Executive Director of the North Dakota Department of Human Services is facing criminal charges.

Maggie Anderson is charged with misdemeanors of conspiracy and refusing to perform a public duty.

The charges stem from the drowning of a 5–year–old girl in the city–owned pool in Velva last June.

Prosecutors say social services employees tried to cover up the fact that the license of a daycare provider had expired.

She is facing charges of negligent homicide and child neglect.

Anderson’s attorney says she committed no crime and that she knew nothing of the alleged fraudulent license.
