South Dakota’s Governor Meeting with Transgender People

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has scheduled a meeting with a group of transgender people.

The meeting tomorrow comes as he weighs whether to make South Dakota the first state in the U.S. to require schoolchildren to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their sex at birth.

A Sioux Falls nonprofit, the Center for Equality, asked for the meeting.

Its director of operations said the request was in response to Daugaard saying that he hadn’t knowingly met a transgender person.
