Niagara, ND Man Sentenced in Selfie Death of Triathlete

A Niagara, N.D. man accused of taking selfies on his cell phone while driving and killing a triathlete bicycling near here was sentenced to three months in jail and another three on home monitoring Wednesday.

As part of a plea deal in the felony negligent homicide charge against him, Matthew Kelley Strand pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor aggravated driving in Steele County Court.

He also pleaded guilty in a subsequent, unrelated driving under the influence charge.

Strand is sentenced to two years unsupervised probation as part of the deal.
