Hillsboro Bakery Closing its Doors

A Main Street staple for baked goods in Hillsboro is closing its doors to walk-in customers starting next month.

Owners say Our Town Bakery has seen a decline in profits and foot traffic over the past 2 years.

So they’re closing up shop and turning into an online, specialty-order cake and baked goods business instead.

Virginia Nicoll says it’s partly due to the town’s small population and the popularity of high-end baked goods.

“I think people, because of Pinterest, because of Facebook, have come to want and sort of expect a lot more variety, and a specialized experience,” said Nicoll.

The bakery closes to retail business March first.
