Fargo Little League Hoping to Make it to the Big Leagues

Fargo Little League is trying to make it to the big leagues.

Jamestown and Fargo are the only two cities that have little league programs in the state.

That has been one of their major setbacks in moving on to a national competition.

The Fargo Little League program has grown from 180 to just over 400 players.

The increased interest has little league officials trying to make playing in a regional competition possible.

“We’re trying to get little league going in Fargo, North Dakota, and in North Dakota in general. Right now were the only state in the United States that doesn’t have little league till Fargo came along,” said Alex Summer, Executive Director of Fargo Little League.

To move on to regional, each state is required to have at least four teams that can compete in a state tournament.

Something the league is trying to make happen.

“It would feel scary and awesome at the same time, and if we won that would make me really really happy,” said Boden Meier of Fargo Little League.

Fargo Little League officials say the indoor facility is one of the ways there keeping kids in shape all year round.

“They’re already dreaming about playing on ESPN someday. The opportunity to come and play in the winter time just gives us a head start, and equals the playing field,” said Chris Meier Coach at Fargo Little League.

Chris says besides the competitive nature of the game, it’s a hobby that the kids enjoy.

“These kids love playing baseball, they love being around their friends. The indoor facility gives them a chance on a Wednesday or Sunday evening to come over and hit,” said Chris.

The program will be hosting two free tournaments this year inviting teams from around the area.

They say it is one of the ways they are hoping to encourage the start-up of more teams.
