Rodriguez Could Get New Defense Attorneys For Death Penalty Appeal
New attorneys could be taking over the death penalty appeal of Alfonso Rodriguez Jr.
The Minnesota Federal Public Defender’s Office has asked a federal judge to withdraw from the case.
Two additional court–appointed death penalty experts are also seeking to be removed.
Court documents say “personnel changes” at the Minnesota office, plus changes in the federal system “prevent the office from continuing to perform its role.”
Federal prosecutors in Fargo plan to file a response to the request within 10 days.
Rodriguez is on death row for the 2003 murder and kidnapping of Dru Sjodin.
