Lull in Traffic Tickets to Blame for 167% Fine Increase in Grand Forks?

Parking violations are also on the rise in Grand Forks.

City officials say parking tickets spiked 167 percent in 2015.

That’s after there was a lull in the number of traffic tickets in 2013 and 2014.

City officials say it’s because the city grew so fast, street crews were too busy clearing snow and cleaning streets to write tickets.

But the city has since added a new full-time parking enforcer and some people say they’ve gotten three tickets in the last six months.

“It runs about $15 each, more if you don’t pay it right away. And it’s always around the bars in downtown. It feels like we’re being punished for drinking and not driving,” said self-proclaimed ticket violator Jake Chisholm.

Parking tickets issued by city police remained steady during the time street crew tickets shot up.
