Heitkamp Speaks to Working Families About the FAMILY Act
Senator Heidi Heitkamp continues to raise awareness across the state about the FAMILY Act.
The senator spoke with community leaders and working families at a Jamestown daycare, to talk about the bill and how they would benefit from it.
The bill would allow workers to get paid family and medical leave.
Senator Heitkamp stresses that healthy families need to be a top priority, not only in the state but across the nation.
“We know there are families that delay having children because of daycare cost. But also because, ‘How do I take enough time off and I want 12 weeks with my newborn’. That’s critical timing for bonding that’s for brain development,” says Senator Heitkamp.
Currently, the United States is the only industrialized nation in the world that does not offer paid maternity leave.
