It’s Construction Season! Expect Delays

It’s road construction season and if you’re driving through Moorhead, you can expect delays.

The city will be undergoing big infrastructure renovations.

From now until the end of summer, you’re going to have to plan ahead in Moorhead.

The interchange at I–94 and Highway 75 and downtown will be getting makeovers.

“We’re going to make some great improvements in the city of Moorhead,” says District Engineer Jodi Martinson of Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials say that I–94 from Highway 75 will become a diverging diamond interchange.

In this simulation, drivers will be able to turn left more fluidly, similar to a right turn.

MN DOT says this will improve traffic flow.

But the project will start from the last week of April and run through October.

Martinson says, “But not going to sugar coat it, getting around construction is going to be challenging.”

And there’s another major project that will cause more delays.

The sidewalk project on Main Avenue downtown will stretch from the river to 8th street.

The sidewalk will become ADA–compliant with stamped street art.

Dozens of businesses will be affected by these constructions, but the mayor doesn’t want this to deter people from local businesses.

“Make a point to going to them still, even though you may have to take your time to get there. There will be ways that we’ll make sure that people can get to all those businesses,” says Moorhead Mayor Del Rae Williams.

Minnesota Department of Transportation says these are some of the largest projects to be ever done in Moorhead, costing more than $24 million.

“We’re working on 3 out of our 4 busiest intersections in our district this summer and busiest interchange,” says Martinson.

Planning ahead will be a must do this season.

Another must do to add to your list while commuting, is giving your full cooperation while passing these work sites.

Safety is a team effort and we all have a role and responsibility in that.

There will be an open house April 19th at the Moorhead Courtyard by Marriott for anyone with questions.

Detours will be added in later stages of the projects.
