Accused Grand Forks Teacher Waives Hearing

A former Grand Forks Central High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

James Whalen, 41, has pleaded not guilty.

Police allege that Whalen engaged in sex acts with the teen at the school and in his home between November and February.

Whalen joined the Grand Forks school system in 1998.  He submitted his resignation March 1.

A tentative trial date is scheduled for early September.
