Famous Ojibwe Author and Poet Has Died
Ojibwe author, poet and playwright Jim Northrup has died of complications of cancer at the age of 73.
Northrup shared his Anishinaabe language and heritage through his books, storytelling and plays.
He served in Vietnam and chronicled modern Native American life in his syndicated column Fond du Lac Follies.
In an interview last month with Minnesota Public Radio, Northrup said he had nothing to be afraid of as he faced the end of his life because he was simply changing addresses.
His funeral will be held Friday in Sawyer, Minnesota.
