Former Assistant Fire Chief Dead After Crash
A former assistant Fargo fire chief has died after suffering a medical emergency and crashing his pickup.
Minnesota State Patrol says 64-year-old Steve Balstad was westbound on Highway 10 on Monday afternoon when his pickup left the road and hit a pole before vaulting over an approach near Lake Park.
Balstad died while his wife, Sandra, suffered non life-threatening injuries.
He retired from the fire department in 2014 after 40 years of service.
