Making Instruments To Celebrate Different Cultures
As part of Welcome Week in The F–M, area the Plains Art Museum held an event focusing on the importance music holds in different cultures.
Guest artists and museum staff are teaching families how to make different instruments to help cross cultural boundaries.
One artist designed his own instrument called a garp, which is the combination of a gourd and a harp.
There is also a demonstration from guest artists, sharing music from their cultures.
“We’re thinking about how a lot of different cultures have different styles of music and how we communicate through music we’ve involved some Native American musicians to kind of examine what it means to welcome folks to a country,” says Director of Education at Plains Art Museum Netha Cloeter.
