Barnes County Community Grieving After Shooting Death of 12-Year-Old Boy

A Barnes County community is mourning the death of a 12-year-old boy.

He was shot and killed in what his mom calls an accidental shooting.

The boy died last night around 10:00pm while visiting his relatives in Sanborn.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s Department says they’ve recovered a shotgun.

The boy attended Barnes County North.

We spoke with a grief counselor from Dazey Assembly of God church, who is helping the community grieve through the situation.

“Well I think that in general everyone right now is in shock. They can’t begin to understand it right now. They’re trying to deal with it and I think one thing besides talking to friends and family is I think another important connection is their faith,” said Pastor Foster Beckstrand.

On social media the boy’s mother says he was thoughtful, empathetic and was looking forward to his 13th birthday next week.
