Local Business Owners Eagerly Await Small Business Saturday

Greg Danz, co–owner of Zanbroz Variety in Downtown Fargo, is preparing for Small Business Saturday.

It’s a day dedicated to shopping locally to support small businesses.

“All through downtown, a lot of the stores will have specials and deals,” said Danz.  “Including us, we’ll have some specials and we’ll have some door prizes. We’re just inviting people to come on down and share the love.”

Many shoppers say every town has different types of stores to shop at.

“It really gives you a little sense of what the town is like,” said shopper Jane Adamski. “A little local flavor to it.  I really like that.”

“Independent business we think is kind of the backbone to communities like Fargo,” said Danz. “Especially if you come downtown…lots of creative fun individuals.”

Some people say that they prefer to shop at local stores because of the unique things that you can find.

“Well I think if you don’t support the local stores, you’re going to really lose out on having a lot of options,” said Adamski. “I mean, you’re going to end up with just the really big box stores that every town has.”

Small Business Saturday also gives stores a chance to gain new customers.

“Hopefully they’ve been here,” said Danz. “But if they haven’t, it’s a great opportunity to see what’s new and exciting downtown and meet a lot of us small business owners.”

Danz says Small Business Saturday has been successful in the past and he’s hoping this year will be bigger and better.

Many small businesses in downtown open at 9am while others open at 10.
