Twin Cities Man Charged In Woman’s Death

A Twin Cities man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a Vadnais Heights, Minnesota woman after human remains were found west of Fargo on Friday.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says Timothy Barr led deputies to where the remains were found.

Barr had been earlier charged in St. Paul, but those charges were dropped as the search for the body of 45 year old Michelle Newell was underway.

Barr was last seen with Newell at a farm southwest of Fargo in late August.

Cass County Sheriff’s Department Release:

On Friday, December 2nd, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office located what deputies believe to be human remains at a rural Cass County location.  The Sheriff’s Office was actively searching a specific location pertaining to the missing person report of Michelle Newell out of Ramsey County, MN.  The identified location was provided to law enforcement by Timothy Barr.  The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, along with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, did find what law enforcement believes to be human remains.  At this time, it is not certain that the human remains located are those of Ms. Newell.  The discovered remains were sent to the medical examiner’s office to assist in the identification process.  

Timothy Barr has been formally charged in Cass County District Court with the below listed charges;

1.       Manslaughter (B Felony)

2.       Duty In Accident Involving Death or Injury (B Felony)

Timothy Barr is currently in custody awaiting an extradition hearing in Minnesota pertaining to the listed Cass County charges.
