UND Fans “Move on to the Future” After Athletic Program Cuts

It's a sad time for some, but UND fans in Fargo say they're looking forward to the future

FARGO, N.D. — Many older Fighting Hawks fans in Fargo say it’s a solemn time for UND fans, but it’s also a time to look forward to the future.

It was the last UND Athletics Fan Luncheon of the season.

Many fans and some UND coaches were there.

Although UND is in Grand Forks, Alumni Foundation officials said the fan and alumni base in Fargo is strong.

They said older fans are sad to see what’s happening to some of the programs but are staying optimistic.

“It’s a tough thing,” said Champion’s Club Director Val Sussex. “We’ll just have to move on, build together and be stronger and move on to the future.”

UND Football Coach Bubba Schweigert, Men’s Basketball Coach Jeff Horner and Assistant Hockey Coach Matt Shaw met with fans at the luncheon.

In March, some teams were cut from the UND athletics program including women’s hockey and the swimming and diving teams.
