Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener to Cast Off in St. Cloud
About 500,000 anglers are expected to fish for the walleye season opener
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Governor Dayton will take a break from the heat of the legislative session to host the state’s fishing opener.
The 70th annual Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener casts off on May 13th in the St. Cloud area of the Mississippi River.
About 500,000 anglers are expected to fish for the walleye season opener.
The DNR said this stretch of the Mississippi is a hotspot with similar walleye catch rates to Minnesota’s best fishing lakes.
It’s the first time the St. Cloud-Sartell-Sauk Rapids area will host the Governor’s Opener.
