Spirit Lake Casino Considering Alcohol Sales

A council vote scheduled Tuesday was postponed to provide time for additional review

ST. MICHAEL, ND — The Spirit Lake Casino might soon be offering spirits.

The Spirit Lake Tribal Council is considering allowing alcohol sales at the Sioux tribe’s casino, south of Devils Lake.

Alcohol has been banned on the reservation for decades.

But tribal leaders are considering allowing the casino to serve alcohol on the gambling floor and during events such as weddings and conferences at the casino’s steakhouse.

A portion of the revenue from alcohol sales might go toward funding an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center on the reservation.

A council vote scheduled Tuesday was postponed to provide time for additional review.
