MN Dept. of Public Safety Releases Video of Girl Nearly Killed by Speeding Truck

They want to send a message to other drivers about the importance of always stopping for school buses

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. — A disturbing video shows a driver failing to stop for a school bus in Rosemount, Minnesota.

Sixth grader Miana Rhoades was nearly struck and killed by that driver last December.

The incident was captured on video that was just released by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

They want to send a message to other drivers about the importance of always stopping for school buses.

State law requires vehicles to stop for school buses when the bus driver activates the flashing lights and has the crossing arm fully extended.

Citations have increased from $300 to $500 this year for stop arm violations.

Police were able to use the video and arrested 21-year-old Zachary Wosika.

He told police he saw the stop arm, but could not stop in time.

Wosika pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to a year of probation, fined $210 and given 20 hours of community service.
