ST. PAUL, Minn. — A woman is suing the St. Paul Police Department after she was bit by a K9 officer while taking out her trash.

The attorney for Desiree Collins says she was at the dumpster behind her home throwing out the trash when the dog attacked.

Police say they were in the area searching for a robbery suspect.

Despite commands from the dog’s officer, the K9 wouldn’t let go as the woman screamed “please help me!”

When the officers were able to get the woman away from the dog, they apologized and called an ambulance, telling her she was “just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The attorney says the dog’s leash was too long and the officers didn’t give proper warning the dog was in the area.

St. Paul’s police chief apologized to Collins and said officers will receive more training.
