Dick Beardsley Talks Staying Sober, Battling Addiction with First Step Recovery in Fargo
He says it's important to share his story and continue to inspire others to get better one day at a time
FARGO, ND — Dick Beardsley shares his personal story of hope and redemption with patients and supporters of First Step Recovery in Fargo.
In February, Beardsley will be 21 years sober, after battling a prescription drug addiction.
He says it’s important to share his story and continue to inspire others to get better one day at a time.
He also says support is a huge part of recovery.
He says family members, loved ones and supporters should never give up because addiction is an ugly disease.
“When I’m done with my talk, I see a difference in their face,” Beardsley said. “I see some tears sometimes. I see a little sparkle, and I see that hope in their eyes, and that gives me great joy because if one person comes out of this talk tonight that changes their life for the better, and makes a difference, than mission accomplished.”
Beardsley says if there’s one thing he wants audience members to walk away with, is hope.
