UND Welcomes New Athletics Director
Chaves replaces Brian Faison who retired at the end of 2017
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — UND has officially welcomed Bill Chaves to the Fighting Hawks family.
A press conference was held in Grand Forks to introduce Chaves as the 16th Athletics Director for the university.
He comes to UND after more than a decade at Eastern Washington University.
The football program earned seven playoff berths and won the FCS national title in 2010.
Chaves replaces Brian Faison who retired at the end of 2017.
“It was very difficult because we did have several Division I sitting Athletic Directors apply,” President Kennedy said. “We had a great committee that included the wide-cross section of those who have a passion for UND Athletics. They really picked four great candidates. We had four very good candidates to choose from, which makes my job difficult, but I think we got a good Athletic Director as a result.”
