NDSU Wrestlers Using Experience From Previous NCAA Championships

Bison Hit the Mats on Thursday in Pittsburgh for NCAA Championships

FARGO, N.D. — Four NDSU wrestlers are in Pittsburgh this week to compete in the NCAA championships.

It’s a familiar feeling for all four of the Bison qualifiers who are returning to the NCAA’s for either their second or third year.

The team knows that this competition provides an energy and atmosphere unlike any other, but the Bison are confident that there is no stage too big for them to be at their best.

“It’s a crazy environment. NCAA tournament, national tournament, kind of says it all,” Andrew Fogarty said. “It’s a tournament where upsets are very common and the last two years, I didn’t have the tournament I wanted to and I think that experience is going to help me this year.

“We don’t want to be so hyped up and out of our element that our heart rate is through the roof,” Brent Fleetwood said. “Kind of like a race horse you know – you might be a little nervous in the gate but as soon as the whistle blows its the same thing if you’re out here at the SHAC Arena or if you’re at an NCAA match.

Matches start on Thursday and can be seen on the ESPN family of networks..
