Collins Focused on ‘Winning Style’ of Basketball as he takes over NDSU’s Women

The Bison won just 40 games over their previous five seasons under Maren Walseth.

FARGO, N.D. — North Dakota State’s new women’s basketball coach is eager to raise expectations for a program that has floundered for several years.

Jory Collins took over a national championship D-II program and coached them for eight years before one year as an assistant at Kansas.

He says he isn’t locked in on one specific style of play when it comes to NDSU.

He just wants to win and will use the pieces he has to figure out a way to do that.

“When we get in the gym together, we can really start talking about some details and how fast people are picking up things,” Collins said. “To be honest with you, if we’ve got to play slow and grind it out to get a win, then that’s what we’ll do to start. If we need to play with our hair on fire and get a little reckless, then we’ll play that way if we feel like is going to win a game.”
