NDSU Softball Ready For Minnesota in NCAA Regional

Playing the Gophers for the first time this year

FARGO, N.D. — NDSU softball leaves for Minneapolis Wednesday in preparation for its match up with Minnesota Friday night. This could’ve been the second trip to the Twin Cities for the Bison this year had it not been for a cancellation of a doubleheader scheduled back on April 24th.

The Gophers have had the upper hand in the head–to–head series of late. They beat the Bison in the non–conference slate in 2017 and 2018, and then in the Seattle regional of the NCAA tournament in 2016.

Not having the chance to play until the regional this year, the Herd sees that as a potential advantage with fresher faces in the lineup.

“I think that benefits us because the returners on this team have played them before plenty of times, but I’ve never played them,” freshman pitcher Paige Vargas said. “It’s good to see that they have seen all of us but then again I haven’t seen all of them so I think it’ll just be a good match up.”

“It just shows that we can go out there and show them what we could’ve done earlier in the season,” junior outfielder Madyson Camacho said. “Its just going to be fun this week and going out there is going to be a challenge for them and a challenge for us to overcome but I think we can do it.”

The game between the Bison and Gophers is slated for 8:30 p.m. on Friday following the first game of the regional between Georgia and Drake. The game can be seen on ESPN3.
