Businesses challenged while competing with ND amid different Covid-19 rules Moorhead officials say

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Moorhead officials say the city’s businesses are challenged while competing with others in North Dakota amid different coronavirus rules.

In a phone call with Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, President of Moorhead Downtown Incorporated Derrick LaPoint says it’s a challenge for Moorhead restaurants to compete with those in Fargo since they can offer alcohol for curbside orders incentivizing customers to eat across the Red River.

North Dakota also has a tip credit of up to 33% allowing workers to make more than minimum wage if they earn enough gratuity.

LaPointe says it’s important to get businesses the help they need from government aid.

“Many of our businesses are less than 24 hours away from closing their doors. It’s how quickly can we get some of those funds out to folks to keep them in business?” LaPoint said.
