Life 97.9 unexpectedly finds a new home

"This real estate company came and made us an offer which was more than we expected."

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A local Christian radio station is expressing its gratitude after receiving an unexpected blessing in a time of desperation.

“It was starting to show its age. We were getting roof leaks that we couldn’t trace or fix and it just wasn’t built for radio of today. It was built before the age of computer automation and so we knew that we were going to have to move at some point,” Life 97.9 Station Manager Doug Smith said.

After struggling with an aging building, Smith had to figure out how to transition into a better work environment without breaking the bank.

“We knew that when we were going to make a move we would need to have a fundraiser. We would need to raise probably over a million dollars,” said Smith.

Fortunately for Smith that fundraiser wasn’t going to be necessary as an unexpected offer came through just in the nick of time.

“This real estate company came and made us an offer which was more than we expected. We had anticipated a certain price and gave us far more than we thought the property was worth. We just saw that as a mark of divine providence that we didn’t have to have a fundraiser in order to do all these things. The purchase price alone was going to allow us to do what needed to be done,” Smith said.

With a new location one staff member says he’s excited to get back into the swing of things and make people’s days better.

“I am crazy excited to get into that studio for the first time and go live. Whenever you tune into us we’re talking about that hope that is always going to be there no matter what’s going on. Even if you’re having a bad start to your morning you can tune into Life 97.9 and maybe turn your day around,” Life 97.9 Morning Show Host Allen Jones said.

Listeners can tune in to the first live show from the new location at 6:00 Thursday May 6.
