West Fargo Fire opens new fire station
WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – A new fire station has been opened in West Fargo, ushering a new chapter for the department as they look to help the community out faster with this new location. Located 1201 10th Ave. E., this new place will service a wide area.
“Quicker response, less damage, better outcomes.” said West Fargo Fire Chief Dan Fuller.
The new station has already been in use. A fire that took place on November 20 in West Fargo was responded to by a crew from there. According to Fire Chief Dan Fuller, if it wasn’t for the new fire station, it would have taken extra time to get out to fires like that.
“Now we have an additional four people that can respond out of this fire station,” said Chief Fuller. “We can assemble our effective response force on scene quicker. Just the other day at that structure fire we had the first nine firefighters on scene in six minutes. That means a lot.”
This new place will have state of the art technology to help these firefighters in their duties. This includes individual rooms, decontamination and an inhouse training tower.
“It’s important to them to have some place where they can work out of, that looks out for their health and safety.” said Chief Fuller.
This new location will also help the carcinogenic problem that many firefighters face. According to Chief Fuller, this issue has been going on for years across the nation, but now they getting a handle on it through new practices to take better care of those that battle the flames.
“You have to go through a process to decontaminate yourself and your equipment before you get to the kitchen,” said Chief Fuller. “And then you are not eating things and not ingesting those carcinogens. There’s nationwide studies, we know that firefighters have a higher risk of cancer across the board for almost every type of cancer.”
This new station was an $18 million project for the City of West Fargo.
